Mr. Lovelace served as a Field Artillery Officer initially assigned to the 82nd Airborne and then served as a Battery Commander in the XVIII Airborne Corps. Subsequently he was assigned to serve in a combat role as a Field Artillery Forward Observer with the Delta Company 3/506th Infantry 101st Airborne Division in the Republic of Vietnam. He left the military service with the rank of Captain. For his service in Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medals.
